Residents Debbi Trichel and Peggy Kovacs held a longtime tent watching the fireworks while Rick Sprey claimed the best seat from a porch roof. A Sentimental Sounds barbershop quartet performed under trees as families picnicked with blankets and strollers amid flags and balloons.

Tragic Monocacy River drowning near Frederick
Charles B. Pruitt, 45, of 429 North Market Street, Frederick, drowned while wading into the Monocacy River during a fishing trip.
