Senate panel exposes 2000 racing news recipients
Washington July 2 The Senate Commerce Committee unveiled a bulky report showing the pattern of race news distribution reaching bookies across the nation. It lists more than 2,000 firms and persons who receive or distribute race news via telegraph and telephone lines from Chicago. Senator McFarland said many named are legitimate users with no gambling ties. The report could aid police tracing bookie operations. The committee recommends a bill to ban interstate movement of certain pre race information. The full committee has yet to act this session.
