Frederick coach Jack Griffin wins two state track awards
Jack Griffin, coach of the Frederick Track and Field Club and a West Frederick High School teacher, received two Maryland Governor's awards yesterday in formal ceremonies. One award, a Special Plaque for national track contributions, cited his role in bringing the national AAU women and girls track championship to Frederick and his work with American athletics. The other, a Certificate of Distinguished Citizenship, honored his help in promoting the national track meet here. Diane Waters, Griffin’s pupil and a member of his girls YMCA team, won an event in an international competition as Griffin stood by.
