Video wars let the games compete in console race
New York AP reports NEC's TurboGrafx-16 challenges Nintendo’s 8-bit and 16-bit systems with sharper graphics and sound. Trials praised NEC’s power, but price and brand loyalty may cushion Nintendo’s lead as both firms chase a booming US market valued in the billions.
Nintendo Faces Rising Rivals in 16-Bit Console Race
New York AP reports Nintendo of America battles NEC and Sega as 16-bit systems enter the market. NEC TurboGrafx-16 priced around $200 with a 16-bit graphics processor promises richer visuals while Sega Genesis ships in September at similar cost. Analysts note Nintendo seeks to sustain growth amid a maturing U.S. video game market.
