Court finds Bergdoll escape conspiracy and officer neglect
The Adjutant General Harris letter of May 11 1920 is cited to show Bergdoll had no wish to escape, yet officials including Edward S Bailey and D Clarence Gibboney are charged with gross carelessness in arranging his return. Major Hunt and others are found negligent for letting Bergdoll visit Philadelphia on a pretext for about thirty hours, aiding conspirators to perfect an escape while under guard. Ansell, ex acting Judge Advocate, and Railey, his Washington partner, are noted.
