A 72-year-old Gaithersburg man identified as Thomas Irving Lydand Jr died after being struck by a train near Walkersville last Friday. The body was found around 7:30 am. cause of death is under investigation as investigators review fingerprints and scene details.
Montgomery County police seek witnesses who were seen on the Aspen Hill Trail near Oriental Street and Russett Road Wednesday afternoon. A jogger was found dead the same night, with detectives asking residents to come forward. Police described a blonde woman, a man in running clothes, and a light colored dog as possible witnesses. Frederick County police said Warren Ellis an 18 year old resident of Sagner Apartments is charged with first and second degree assault reckless endangerment and destruction of property He allegedly threatened to stab his father with a knife and was taken into custody after his sisters stopped the attack District Court Judge W Milner Roberts lowered bail from 85000 to 65000.
Freddy County forecast shows partial cloudiness with lows near mid 30s to lower 40s and highs in the 40s. Northwest winds around 10 mph. Showers likely Thursday night and Monday. Maryland beaches expect mostly sunny Thursday with highs near 50s, increasing clouds later, and cooler nights in the 20s to 30s.
A Hagerstown man was arrested late Tuesday by undercover officers at the John Hanson Apartments. Donald Marvell Rivers, 25, was charged with distribution of cocaine, possession with intent to distribute, and possession. He was jailed awaiting a bail hearing before a Frederick County District Court commissioner. No accidents were reported on the I-70 section near the MD 355 ramp changes.
Joseph Thomas Clay Jr. a 24 year old Damascus teacher, was convicted by Rockote District Court Judge Cornelius J. Vaughey on a peeping tom charge. The case involved spying through a bedroom window of a 12 year old girl. Clay remains on paid administrative leave pending school district action.
At about 7 40 pm on Tuesday officers stopped a vehicle on North Church Street Thurmont for minor violations and detected burnt marijuana odor. Driver Leo Lee Myers 26 of Emmitsburg and passenger Edward Wagaman 24 of Ottawa Pa were charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and paraphernalia and jailed pending bail hearings.
Gaithersburg forecaster Jim Hughes says he did not predict a warmer and wetter winter. He attributes the earlier forecast to the climate prediction center and reiterates a below average winter with cold anomalies in the first half. He notes coronal holes could affect regional warming if Earth tic.
