Montgomery to start capping Oaks Landfill in spring
Montgomery County will cap about a quarter of Oaks Landfill starting in spring as part of a gradual closure. Senior environmental planner Tom Kusterer said the 90 acre site will be shut in stages while a new 2.5 million dollar leachate pretreatment facility operates to meet stricter permit standards and reduce treatment costs. The project aims to cap 22 acres first and continue sequentially, with hopes to close Oaks within a few years if a Dickerson-area landfill comes online.
