Mason and Dixon Survey Plot the Maryland Pennsylvania Border
The 1763 Mason Dixon survey settled a border dispute between Maryland and Pennsylvania. Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon led a crew to carve a 49 43 26.3 north line with eight foot swaths and milestones imported from England. They faced Indian territories and theft of milestones, completing the line near present day Peabody West Virginia after years of labor and conflict.
