Police Quell Jewish Anti Nazi Protests
Police and sheriffs deputies suppressed a brief flareup during a Jewish Defense League demonstration outside a Nazi group headquarters in El Monte California. About 40 demonstrators were arrested on charges including disturbing the peace and assault while fistfights and stone throwing caused minor injuries to an officer.

Cumberland Man Elected Illustrious Potentate of Ali Ghan Temple
Richard T. Budd of Cumberland was elected Illustrious Potentate of Ali Ghan Temple Ancient and Accepted Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine for 1972 at the January 21 meeting. Also elected were John J. Hafer Jr as chief rabban and other temple officers. Budd, a 32d degree mason and longtime Goodyear executive, has held multiple posts in the Shrine and community service groups. He and his wife Frances Elizabeth Schwalbach have three children.

The Charcoal Drawing Workshop runs Mondays 7 30 to 9 30 p m for adults and teens starting Feb 7. The Children's Art Workshop for ages 7 to 13 meets Tuesdays 6 30 to 8 30 p m starting Feb 8.
