Two Weekend House Fires Displace Family in Frederick County
Frederick County firefighters battled two weekend house fires. Tina Miller discovered a blaze in her trailer at 2132B Jefferson Pike Knoxville around 8 45 a m. The furnace malfunction fire caused $5 000 damage and no injuries. Twenty firefighters from Jefferson and Brunswick contained the flames in five minutes. The second fire, at 11420 Cash Smith Road Woodsboro, was found in a rear bedroom by Mrs. Gruber. Twenty firefighters from Woodsboro New Midway Walkersville and Walkersville Rescue confined it to that room. the Gruber family remains in their home. The blaze is under investigation.

A newspaper box fire ignited in a plastic delivery tube in Monrovia early Saturday, part of a string of more than a dozen mailbox fires in recent weeks. Deputy State Fire Marshal Al Ward said the 4 a.m. discovery occurred on Lynn Burke Road 4300 block and Green Valley station crews extinguished it. Authorities urged anyone with information to call the state fire marshal or the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.

Man Hurt In Crash On U S 40 Near I 70
Myersville man Michael Lee Zimmerman 25 of Wolfsville Road is listed in good condition at Washington County Hospital Hagerstown after a single car wreck on U S 40 near I 70 in Washington County. Police say his 1977 Pontiac Firebird failed to negotiate a curve, struck a culvert and embankment became airborne and then hit trees ejecting him. He drove on the left front tire rim for over a mile before the crash. Investigation ongoing.

Man levels utility pole and flips car in accident
A Frederick County man, David Stull, 35, was treated and released after a 5:30 p.m. crash on Green Valley Road where his 1982 Subaru struck a utility pole then overturned. Deputy Dennis Shoemaker investigated. Rebecca Stevens, 9, remained in critical condition at Children’s Hospital after being struck by a van Friday near Libertytown.
