U S Space Cadets Picked for Mercury Program
New York AP A NASA led plan selects about 110 volunteers from Navy Army and Air Force to become Mercury Astronauts. Criteria include university or military flight training, age under 40, height under 5 feet 11 inches, and top physical and psychological condition. About 12 will be chosen by late March for intense testing and training at Langley and will join the Space Task Group for orbital flight prep. A separate report describes a Braniff plane landing safely in New Orleans after gear checks showed proper alignment.
