Sandstone deiced plan eyed amid bitter weather in Frederick
State Highway Administration has spent 1.2 million this season in Frederick County far above the 800000 snow removal budget. Assistant district engineer Richard Lindsay notes limited supplies for three ice storms and five snow storms as crews prefer fighting a blizzard to ice. He explains mixing salt sand and cinders aids coverage while salt stays on interstates due to traffic. Potholes and road elevations rise in places with recent thaw and freeze. warned areas to get signs and occasional coal mixture to cover gaps.
