Seniors seek consolidated programs for Maryland elderly

Hundreds of Maryland seniors urged legislators to consolidate aging services under the Maryland Office on Aging to help keep elders independent. Louis Goldstein was sworn in for his 10th term as comptroller nearby as attendees pressed for alternatives to nursing homes and urged better coordination across departments. Delegates warned of legislative battles, while White House Conference on Aging leaders stressed improved public image and support. The rally also covered isolation and loneliness as seniors favor aging at home with family and community support.
