Arctic weather sweeps Maryland and nearby areas as a blizzard-like storm blankets the region. Deaths near 100 nationwide with Mississippi flood danger and Philadelphia paralyzed by heavy snowfall. Maryland reports five to fifteen inches of snow with subfreezing temps and widespread travel hazards.
Peiping January 24 AP reports Japanese planes bombed Chinese troops in Chahar with 48 to 58 casualties listed. The Japanese advance, which began Tuesday, appears halted by the Japanese themselves, with no major developments on the Chahar border by 7 p m according to a Chinese military spokesman.
A preliminary Walker DeVault study on Tax Revenue Sources for Maryland finds little chance of real estate tax relief through new levies. State debt obligations bind general property tax funds, limiting options and likely preserving current real estate levies.
