Mine subsidence shakes Girardville area in coal fields

Residents woke as ground trembled and rocks fell in a massive mine subsidence in East Mine workings near Preston Hill and Homesville. A valley wide drop of about twelve feet over eleven miles was linked to coal mining, with sinkholes forming near Woodland Park and threatening nearby towns and infrastructure.

Steered Into Death: Change of Drivers Triggers Fatal Crash

In Rahway New Jersey on January 23 John Kean aged 50 and Thomas Bartkowiak 43 of South Amboy were killed when the automobile skidded on Lincoln highway struck a tree and overturned near a 20 foot embankment. Three others John J Ryan Antones and Nelson Deats all of South Amboy sustained serious injuries. A coroner's inquiry led to the body dispatches to their homes and Kean was said to have just taken the steering wheel when the crash occurred.
