Legislators Face Clash Over Public School Community Service Rule
Maryland educators fear a repeal bill on the new state community service graduation mandate will invite further legislative involvement in local curriculum. The bill, co authored by Sen. Smelser and colleagues, divides boards statewide with Frederick County backing the measure while Montgomery County and others oppose it. If the bill fails districts must implement state approved local programs or require 75 hours of service.
