Book of letters reveals another side of Mencken
A new collection, Mencken and Sarah, A Life In Letters, draws from about 450 letters between H L Mencken and Sarah Haardt from 1923 to 1935. Edited by Marion Elizabeth Rodgers, the volume shows a tender, private side of the famed critic. The book, due Feb 14, stems from letters found at Goucher College Library, with Mencken gifting them in 1936 but asking they remain sealed for 45 years.
