Youth Dies When Hit By School Bus
A 17 year old Brunswick High School senior was struck and killed by a school bus near the school while running across a street on what appears to be his way home. John Lester Hawes of Park Avenue Brunswick died at Frederick Memorial Hospital at 3 28 p m. The Brunswick Volunteer Ambulance Company responded. Hawes ran between two parked buses then into the path of an eastbound bus at a traffic light. The bus, number 257, driven by Charles Harold Scott, 33, Knox County.

A Frederick couple, Sylvia Ann Walker and Lawrence Walker, are listed in satisfactory condition at Frederick Memorial Hospital after a shooting at 134 W South Street. Lawrence reportedly shot his wife then himself in the stomach, during a 9:50 p.m. incident witnessed only by the couple's grandparents before police arrived. An investigation by the City Police Detective Bureau is ongoing.

Arson Attempt On National Guard Troop Carriers Probed
Police and the FBI investigate an arson attempt on seven National Guard troop carriers in Frederick. Suspect climbed the fence at North Bentz Street and removed eight gasoline cans, pouring fuel beneath and loosening caps before ignition. Driver Charles Deaier was burned while responding to the alarm around 11 p.m. The United Ambulance crew extinguished the fire. no vehicle damage reported.
