Wayland Emerges From Urbana High In A Quiet Clash Of Voices
A four member ninth grade band at Urbana High School named Wayland creates a distinct sound with varied influences on their album The Great Haybale Adventure. Keith Krause leads vocals with Jason Berno on lead guitar while David Wolf bass and harmonies and Chris McCamy drums complete the lineup. The group began in sixth grade as a loose friendship and, after a detour at Interzone, settled on Wayland to avoid confusion with a band named Sinkhole. The eleven track album features a sea chanty style and sci fi inspired melodies including Rosco the Clown a haunting tale of a deranged performer and Do You Think of Me a yearning ballad. The band emphasizes energetic practice and shared creative energy despite being separated by Frederick and Urbana schools and promises more of their unusual, ambitious sound.
