The Westminster fire company reports no alarms in 1888 and good equipment. An incident last night between 10 and 12 noted a minor blaze at Mr Jon a Waller’s junk shop on East Third Street, quickly contained by prompt firemen. Repairs at Woodboro property finished with frescoed walls and new carpet and chandelier due soon. Maryland Churchman to be published as official organ

The Episcopal diocese of Maryland will start an eight page monthly paper to replace the small Laurel publication. The Maryland Churchman will debut March 1 with Rev Edward Gray as editor, published by Heal and Son, and serve as the bishop’s official organ.

The Mount Aury council of the Royal Arcanum welcomed grand officers this Thursday afternoon with a formal reception. Officers for 1889 were installed by D D G R John B Betholow, including Regent Byron S Dorsey and Secretary Wm B Higeley. The visit spurred plans for a banquet at the Franklin House with Wiebington Lodge and Boone Lodge invited to attend.
