Shoveler Shortages Strain Boston Street Railway
Boston officials report shovelers' cramps and snow fatigue crippling city streetcar services. About 400 laborers were sidelined with colds and rheumatism after a fortnight of heavy snow, delaying tracks and increasing costs. Public Works Commissioner Joseph A. Rourke notes reduced crew and downtime, while General Manager Edward Dana cites significant lost wages and maintenance expenses totaling near 500000.
