Frederick County school leaders outline the 1993 operating budget totaling 142.1 million including 137.5 million in unrestricted funds. The plan seeks 3 million more county funding, down from last year by 2.5 million, and includes 27 administrative positions to be eliminated.
Fourth and fifth grade chorus members at Lewistown Elementary and the fifth grade chorus at Spring Ridge Elementary performed The Dream of Martin Luther King as part of a King Day celebration.

Prices at the station now undercut local rivals with reg at 99 cents, midgrade 1.09 and supreme 1.19, while AAA notes January figures to follow and media reaction is positive. Staff report increased business and customers reacting with surprise.
Maj. Donald Deering of the Maryland National Capital Park Police withdrew from consideration for Frederick City Police chief. He cited a personal opportunity and declined to discuss his candidacy. Deering, 48, has 26 years in park police, lives in Point of Rocks, and chaired a 1990 city reorganization study. The mayor aims to appoint a new chief by Feb. 1 as aldermen prepare for a Jan. 23 meeting.
