County weighs tax waivers for affordable housing project
County leaders debate two options to finance a proposed affordable housing project costing 65 008 in county real estate revenue if adopted. One option waives all real estate taxes totaling 5 488 county and 3 509 city taxes in year one. Over 15 years county losses rise to 125 047. Estimates assume 5 percent annual assessment growth. City leaders require county backing. A state waiver may be needed. The proposal faces questions on cost, duration, and transit access for residents earning 10 000 to 19 000 annually. The regular city county meeting in Winchester Hall is set.
