School board wins approval for Hayward Road offices project

Frederick County Board of Education won approval from the Frederick City Planning Commission to renovate the former Plantronics building at 7630 Hayward Road into personnel and financing offices. The 72,000 square foot complex will host the school board, the Frederick County Family Partnership Program, and the Library Audio Visual Center, with a renovation cost over 600000. Work began last fall and could open for some staff in late February with full completion planned by fall. The board also bought the Plantronics building and a warehouse for consolidation, amid earlier plans to move operations from 115 E. Church St. in downtown Frederick. Mayor Paul Gordon opposed moving downtown offices, but a compromise keeps some East Church Street offices.

Kamber Engineering said 129000 gallons daily would be required if all town lots are developed, rising from 45000 now. Annexing the Stein property could push demand to 185000 gallons daily, necessitating a 450000 to 500000 expansion and 18000 in repairs. Commissioners paused Stein annexation pending a solid public works agreement and Buckeye Inc. letters of credit. Buckeye is developing Cooper Oaks, a 118 acre subdivision near Woodsboro.
