Alewife fish lives in fresh and salt waters says Old Farmer
The alewife is a small fish that migrates between ponds and slow rivers and the sea. It spawns in ponds and rivers in the spring and then spends most of its life in coastal waters or the open sea for about three years. The name origins are debated with several theories including Indian and French derivations.
