Remarkable Ashbury leaves board after long service debate
The superintendent recalled how Mrs. Ashbury and her husband stayed friends with the Ashburys post departure, while Berger noted their return from visiting their first great grandchild. Born in Culpepper, Virginia, she was married to Rev Maurice D. Ashbury of All Saints Episcopal Church and raised four children. In a past interview she credited progress since 1952, from students who struggled to read to a more stable system, likening her post retirement to Gen George Marshall’s porch rock.
