Women's measurements larger by designer standards
The National Bureau of Standards finds women's body measurements have grown since the 1939 survey, shifting sizes across Misses and Juniors. The 1939 Misses size 10 would now be a 10 1/8 arm, 20 1/4 thigh, and overall sizing has risen by one to two inches in several categories. Fashion dictates much of the change, with bras and silhouettes moving toward a rounded natural look. Men’s patterns see no new standard.
