Six Die In Clarksburg House Fire In 1985 County Tragedy
A two story frame house at 2290 Slidell Road burned at 2 a.m. killing six related family members and injuring Beverly Shrye in what officials call the second worst Montgomery County fire in history. Firefighters faced hydrant shortages, routed water from Maryland 355, with damage estimated at $60,000. Victims include Robert Burnhouse 38 Glen Burnhouse 31 Mike Burnhouse 19 Joan Carter Beverly Shrye 22 and Regina Carter 11, while Samantha Shrye 2 died in the blaze. Beverly Shrye remained hospitalized with smoke inhalation and second degree burns. two others were treated for smoke inhalation at Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. The cause was linked to a woodburning stove. authorities noted the home could not call for help and the fire burned for some time before responders arrived.
