Vietnam Buildup In 1967 Southeast Asia Outlook
AP SPOTLIGHT examines a 1967 picture in Southeast Asia from Saigon to the Mekong Delta with heavier U.S. troop fighting, renewed pacification efforts, and larger search and destroy actions. The piece notes doubtful progress in pacification, continued Communist attacks, and broader regional ripple effects in Cambodia Laos Thailand and the Philippines. Also, Reginald Bowie returns from Vietnam as a decorated medic with the 25th Infantry. He faces reassignment to Brooke Army Hospital after 30 days at home.

North Vietnam signals four point basis for settlement
Premier Phan Van Dong says Hanoi's four demands create a basis for settlement not immediate talks. He stresses patience and willingness to wait for negotiations, while U S policy seeks terms tying withdrawal and reduced violence to a path toward settlement. The four points include ending war acts, mutual no-alliance with foreign powers, no outside influences on reunification, and Viet Cong program in South Vietnam.
