Living Cost Seen Lower Amid Economic Shift Says Wilken
Washington economist Carl H. Wilken told Rotarians at the Francis Scott Key Hotel that living costs in America are lower than ever as workers now buy more goods per hour than in any other country. He cited rising national income from 31 billion in 1910 to 245 billion in 1940, with pay up 135 percent since 1939, and noted a 1950 housing cost around 11 000 as reasonable for workers. He warned the nation must translate past thinking to present changes and criticized reliance on arithmetic over real data.
