Professor Tanby Ends Own Life in School Room
Clark Ef. Tanby, professor of Greek and Latin at Lawrenceville Preparatory School, shot himself in his room in the Haimu house in Trenton North Carolina on January 11. A Kentucky and Oxford graduate, Tanby was a fellow at Biodes and believed to be overwhelmed by study.

Grave opened triggers murder charge in Paulsboro
Woodbury New Jersey January 11 Joseph Donnelly owner of a Paulsboro boarding house and James Drain a boarder were jailed after the grave of Edward Cole was opened. Cole who died last Wednesday was deemed to have died of paralysis by the coroner though the undertaker told county prosecutor evidence suggested foul play. A large sum of money paid to Cole by Paulsboro authorities for land was not found on the body. Two other violent deaths are said to have occurred in the same house in the last three years.

Assault in Richmond Fashionable District Leaves Woman Beaten
In Richmond on January 11 Miss Marie Louise Stumpf nineteen daughter of B A Stumpf was severely beaten by Charles Gil Hespie twenty five a negro who allegedly attempted a criminal assault. He is under arrest and will face a special grand jury hearing once Miss Stumpf is able to attend.

Mine Disaster Kills 25 at Leiter Colliery Ziegr ler
A gas ignition from a trolley motor sparked a blast at Joseph Leiter’s Ziegr ler colliery in Duquoin Illinois. Twenty five men died and all bodies were recovered. The lone survivor was an Italian youth who escaped unharmed. Foreman Willis Warner Albert Kerr among the dead. Recovery and restart of work were planned after a two month layoff.

Amateur actor poisoned by tainted wine during church farce
Pippin Pippin a choir member at a Methodist church was poisoned during a New Year’s Eve performance of The Only Girl. He drank wine used as stage prop and collapsed with throat burns, later found to have corrosive poison in the bottle. The show was halted. Dr. B Evans treated him and the incident prompted medical attention.
