Rockville man killed crossing Georgia venue Heathfield Drive

A 38 year old Rockville man Geoffrey Alan Engel was struck and died at the scene while crossing Heathfield Drive near Georgia Avenue. Police say he walked into the path of a northbound car and failed to yield to oncoming traffic. The 81 year old driver of a 1989 Cadillac Dorado, Richard Radiey Greenspan, was not injured. Authorities cited pedestrian error and ruled no alcohol or speed factors.

47 nabbed at Potomac party

Montgomery County police charged 47 people for alcohol violations after about 100 partygoers packed a Potomac home on Tara Road. Thirty-eight juveniles aged 15 to 17 and nine adults aged 18 to 20 cited. Jay Deep Varma, 24, faced counts of furnishing alcohol to minors and violating a key law. Juveniles escorted home. adults to District Court. parents were out of the country.

Armed Robbery at Fashion Bug in Kentlands Gaithersburg

Montgomery County police report an armed male robbed the Fashion Bug on Kentlands Boulevard at 7:45 p.m. He demanded the safe, fled after cash was taken, and was described as 6 feet, 170 pounds in a purple ski mask. A separate incident on Cottonwood Terrace involved two men assaulting a 34-year-old man and taking his wallet.

Two hurt in Rockville Pike car crash near Tuckerman Lane

A Severn man, Wayne Nevel Allen, 32, lost control while driving north on Rockville Pike and struck a southbound Honda, injuring Tae Chun Kang, 78, in Snowshoe Lane and Han Ik Kim, 55. Allen was hospitalized in serious condition, Kang in critical, Kim refused transport. The crash was attributed to speed and driver error.

Police seek man in two assaults on women

Police in Rockville and Montgomery County seek a black man suspected in two assaults Friday and Saturday. A sharp object was displayed, money demanded, and both victims were bound. One case involved a 61 year old Rockville woman who was raped and robbed after the intruder entered her apartment.

Fire destroys Mount Airy home. cause under investigation

A mid morning blaze at 7732 Talbot Run Road, Mount Airy, destroyed the one story house of Truman and Sharon Fritz. Fire officials estimate 80 thousand dollars in damage after 14 percent hours of effort. The exact cause is not yet determined, though believed accidental near the furnace. Mrs. Fritz alerted 911 as 40 firefighters from Libertytown New Market Union Bridge and Winfield battled the flames.

Police seek Hagerstown bank robber

State police hunt a man who attempted a Farmers and Merchants Bank robbery near Hagerstown shortly after 10 am. He brandished a black semi automatic handgun, ordered staff to lie down, and emptied drawers into a black bag. A dye canister exploded as he fled. all money was recovered and a waiting vehicle was found nearby.
