New Breed Evangelists Roam Revival Circuits
The Rev Billie Hanks leads a new wave of young evangelists seeking quality over quantity in revival work. He advocates discipling converts for six to twelve months after decision and cites Jesus as a model for ongoing guidance. Hanks, 31, Baylor and Southwestern Seminary graduate, notes the rough, unpaid life of itinerant preaching. About 500 Southern Baptist preachers and musicians work full time, double a decade ago. The Jackie Ruffin Singers perform at Hopehill United Methodist Church January 11 at 3 pm and at First Missionary Baptist Church on W All Saints Street at 7 pm.
