Johnstown Pennsylvania January 10 veterans Wike McCune and Henry Hudson, former Pennsylvania railroad engineers, received $20 monthly pensions from Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie, once superintendent of the Pittsburg division, plans to pension all surviving trainmen who served under his supervision. If a pensioner dies, his widow continues to receive the payments.

Carnegie Institution to be organized January 29
Washington officials announced the Carnegie institution board of trustees will meet January 29 to organize and elect officers. Washington Jan 16 The Nicaragua canal bill passed the house by a near unanimous vote with only two opposed. It fixes total construction cost at 180 million dollars and authorizes the president to secure territory in Costa Rica and Nicaragua for a canal from the Caribbean near Greytown to the Pacific near Brito with harbor works and defense provisions. The bill also authorizes immediate appropriation of 19 million dollars and future expenditures as needed.

Powder Mill Blaze Kills Two in Clearfield County
A non explosive powder company mill near Clearfield Pennsylvania was destroyed by fire yesterday. Two men, John C. Stewart and Roy Smith, were killed with others burned severely including G B Roanberry James Blacker and F K Zentmeyer. It is believed an explosion preceded the fire. Stewart’s body was found among the ruins. The mill cost about $40,000 and was owned by James Kerr and W H Rickey.

Suit over dead man body removed from grave
Relatives of Ralph J. White filed in Wilkes Barre Pa to restrain Springville cemetery trustees from removing White’s body and to force precautions against others reopening the grave. White murdered a nephew and wounded another, was convicted of murder in the second degree and chose death by suicide.
