Lees Summit Grows By Annexing 47 Square Miles

Lees Summit Missouri, a Kansas City suburb with a 1200 population, annexed 47 square miles making it Missouri’s second largest city by area behind Kansas City. The move created policing and fire challenges as patrol cars and radio ranges faltered in the new zones and residents were asked to provide post office box numbers for fire reporting. State law allows annexation by resident vote only for landowners, not occupants.
