Laytonsville incinerator risk higher than Dickerson ash says expert
Chemistry professor Paul Connett told 70 environmentalists and local residents that toxic dioxin emissions from incinerators may be trapped but end up in ash, with one ton of ash produced per four tons burned. County officials defend ash safety and plan to expand Laytonsville landfill, while others urge recycling and source separation. A public hearing is set for Jan 20 at Seneca Valley High School as Pepco negotiates co existence with the incinerator and state monitoring proceeds through mid 1988.
