A 78-year-old Bethesda woman lost an appeal in Rockville over harboring her fugitive son, but the judge suspended a 60-day jail term. Genevieve Christensen helped buy a Philadelphia house for William D. Christensen, already convicted of rape in Montgomery County and Montreal. Weather Update: High Pressure Covers Lower Ohio Valley

A high pressure system sits over the lower Ohio Valley and moves toward Virginia, bringing fair and seasonably cold weather through Friday. A Gulf of Mexico storm will form Friday, delivering rain or snow to Maryland on Saturday, with colder, windy conditions to follow Sunday. Western Maryland stays fair and chilly tonight and Friday, with weekend rain or snow possible Saturday and dry windy cold Sunday. Maryland mountains stay cold through Friday with subfreezing nights. Yesterday’s temps ranged from 33 to 51 across Frederick, Westminster, Hagerstown, Cumberland, and Oakland.

March goal set for Adamstown water line completion

Frederick County officials say Adamstown public water system work is progressing fast with a mid March completion target. Lines are over 80 percent done and crews will shift to house connections in March or April pending weather and tapping logistics. The county covers most of the $297000 local share of the project.

Hospital switches to single hospital exchange

Frederick Memorial Hospital will adopt one uniform internal exchange effective January 14. All 694 and 695 numbers change to 698 as more phones were added and a third exchange would be needed otherwise. Emergency calls and the main number route to the new exchange, while other lines are intercepted with a message. Dial 694-3300 before January 14 or 698-3300 on or after.

Stable After Single Car Crash At U S 15 Intersection

A 34 year old Emmitsburg man, Jack Anderson Brendle, remained in stable condition with head injuries after a single car wreck at the U S 15 and Devilbiss Bridge Road intersection. Passenger Donna Jean Zihle was treated and released. Brendle’s condition later upgraded to fair and transferred to adult trauma. Police say speed and negligent driving are probable causes. the incident remains under investigation.
