Poolesville Downs Northwood To Avenge Christmas Loss

Poolesville defeated Northwood 49-43 after trailing 12-9 in the first quarter and 26-17 at halftime. Both teams stalled on offense in the third period, with Poolesville scoring eight and Northwood four, before Poolesville held on through a 22-point fourth to secure the win.

Einstein Edges Seneca in Overtime 60-59

Einstein rallied in the fourth quarter to force overtime and edged Seneca Valley 60-59 Friday night. Seneca led 45-37 entering the final period, but Einstein outscored 17-9 to force a 54-54 tie at regulation. Eddie Harris scored the winning basket with 15 seconds left in OT as Seneca dropped to 18 on the year. Bill Wolfe led with 22 for the Eagles.

Cavaliers down North Hagerstown in Tri-State clash

South Carroll defeated North Hagerstown 81-71 as the Cavaliers pulled away in the third quarter. Eric Hofstetter led with 24 points and 13 rebounds, Reese Spencer added 23 points with 10 boards, Terri Thomas scored 17, while Rory Sandberg led North with 19. The win improves South Carroll to 5-3.

Cadets down Brunswick in girls hoops 55 35

Frederick girls defeat Brunswick 55 to 35 as Mary Salmon scores 17 and Brenda Harding 22 leading the attack. Salmon grabs 14 rebounds and keys a 25 6 run in the second period while Brunswick is held to 6 points in the frame. Erin Koogie scores 24 for Brunswick. Also notes include Clemson’s 1977 offensive linemen brothers Jeff and Joe Bostic and Ken Anderson’s 20 of 22 passing in a 1974 Bengals win over the Steelers.

FCC hosts Dundalk tonight in key home showdown

The FCC Cougars host Dundalk in the first of four Saturday home games this month. Dundalk features Tony Smith and Thomas Johnson, top scorers in Maryland JUCO, while FCC struggles with an 8 game start and 1 3 conference record.
