President Roosevelt sent a budget message forecasting a 1936 air public debt of 34.239 billion dollars and requesting 4.0 billion for relief funds. He urged balanced budgets, warned against inflation, and favored using existing taxes while Congress weighs allocations for unemployed work relief and other expenditures.
In Oakland Maryland on January 7 AP reports a theory that nitroglycerin or another high explosive in a gasoline tank might have caused a car explosion that killed Carl Trickett and his housekeeper and wounded two of his children. Sheriff Spear planned a full probe at Trickett's farm after Trickett filled his car from a drum before traveling to Morgantown West Virginia. Two state investigators joined the examination in Shallmar mining town to test the dynamite charge theory as an alternative to nitroglycerin in the gas tank.–
Rossville Georgia January 7 AP National Guardsmen patrolling the Amond hosiery mill during a strike rounded up 33 arsons including five women amid a crowd of about 1000. Guardsmen moved the prisoners toward Tennessee after a brief standoff and planned transport to Atlanta this afternoon under Col L C Pope command.

Frank Dorsey, about 30 near Walkersville, pleaded guilty to setting traps on another’s land without permission and chose a 30 day jail term after failing to pay a $25 fine. Deputy wardens testified to prior near recurrences along Israel creek. George King, 37, denied trapping, later called it a trap for Dorsey. Magistrate Mc judged King’s defense weak but gave him benefit of doubt for lack of permit.
Frederick City Ministerial Association discussed expanding ministerial involvement with the CCC camp at Fishing Creek. A plan to increase outdoor Baker Park services and a larger platform was set for action with city officials. Reverend W Royal urged hands on patrol at the camp and a committee will meet Osborn Price to secure the better park platform.

The Brook Hill U S Sunday School at Yellow Springs elected officers for 1935 during a morning service led by Rev W Biges Eliott. Laws E Twentey is superintendent, A Robert Moss assistant, Catherine Rothenhoefer secretary, Evelyn Staley assistant secretary, Harmon Staley treasurer, Mrs Bertha Palmer pianist, and Paul Huffer with James Harley librarians. Epworth League officers installed include President Harold Twenty, Secretary Ruth Harley, Treasurer Eileen Covell, with Raymond Roderick to speak at the first program. A plans meeting for the year will be held next week.
The annual meetings of the Junior and United Fire Companies will be held tonight at 7 30. Officers for the year will be elected and reports submitted. A banquet will follow each meeting. The Juniors will begin to vote at 6 30, polls opened then.

Dr Ira J McCurdy seeks damages for personal injury from an accident nearly four years old against Lewis D Catrow near Lewis town. Chief Judge Hammond Urner presided as further testimony is set. A prior judgment for $500 and costs was confessed against Catrow in favor of New Amsterdam Casualty Company, paid for damages to McCurdy's car. The current suit names McCurdy as plaintiff with Lea Weinberg as attorney. defendants are W Clinton McSherry and Robert E Clapp.
New York on January 7 AP markets opened with calm reaction to the President's proposed budget for the coming fiscal year totaling more than eight billion dollars. Stocks held steady or firm, activity slowed after the first hour. Government securities were mixed, corporate bonds improved, federal grains steady, cotton flat, and call money at one percent with par pound sterling unchanged at $4.91.
Joseph J. Bruno and six relatives are on trial for their lives after a deadly gun attack on a political parade on election eve. Prosecutors say Bruno, a former county detective and justice of the peace, led the assault that killed five and wounded about 130, with the Kalear home cited as the source of the rifles and shotguns.

Private John H. Hankey Jr son of John H Hankey Sr formerly of Frederick enlisted in the US Marine Corps in Baltimore on November 7 1933. He trained at the sea school in San Diego and immediately joined the Marine detachment aboard the Nevada his present station of duty in San Diego California

Flemington N J Jan 7 AP Betty Gow the nursemaid testified she put the undershirt on Charles Lindbergh Jr and identified the tiny garment and thumb guard now cited by the state as linking the slaying to Hunterdon County. She described the last night the child was seen alive and recounted the Lindbergh parents reaction after the loss. The defense began cross examining her background to cast doubt on the kidnapping theory.
Wives husbands and friends will join Lions and Zonta for a joint gathering at 6 30 tonight at Hotel Frederick.
