Woodsboro Towns Water Upgrade and Development in 2000
In 2000 Woodsboro faced major water system issues with a $2 million upgrade for the wastewater plant. The town pressed Frederck County to finance the system, a request denied in May. Hyder Consulting was hired to design a new system while the town faced $4,000 monthly penalties from the Maryland Department of the Environment until the upgrade. The year also saw a larger post office opening in February and a June 12 cent fire tax. Tensions rose with Interfaith Housing Weisberg Knolls project, stormwater maintenance, and a dispute over a pond and towing rules. The Woodsboro Museum opened in September, displaying memorabilia from the former company town. More residents attended the November meeting than all year, as commissioners discussed plantings by Dennis Kline in Copper Oak and a possible settlement.
