The State of Maryland will provide 11.06 million for fiscal 2007 to Frederick County for school construction and renovation. The funding, after an appeal by school officials and County Commissioner Jan Gardner, more than doubles prior contributions and brings the county’s annual state aid to 228 million, the largest single-year allocation.
Frederick County Commissioners approve an additional 2.25 million from recordation taxes to speed park projects. Commissioner John Thompson Jr. voted against the action while Ilona Hogan abstained. Funds will back upgrades at Olt National FETisteint Park including athletic fields, parking, and new lanes, plus a historic barn stabilization and trails. Ballenger Creek District Park to receive 75,000 for ballfield grading.
Commissioner L Thompson Jr who nominated but failed to bolster support for Mr. Lee's appointment in September joined Commissioner Hona Hogan in dissenting votes against Mr. Scott's stance. The record notes tensions over the HRC selection and health related concerns surrounding Kuster.
