Walkersville Library set for tentative March 13 dedication

Walkersville Public Library faces delays as shelving delivery stalls and furniture timing remains unclear. The 2,500 square foot facility grew to 3,000 with plans for 15,000 book capacity, funded by increases in size and entrance upgrades. The project, first recommended in 1963, began in 1979 with school land reuse approved in 1986.

Emmitsburg weighs watershed land purchase plan

Emmitsburg officials say they will study a contract to buy about 11 acres adjacent to the watershed for preservation at $60,000. Funding would come from roughly $60,000 in timber revenues, Mayor Robert Preston said. The land sits above the watershed near Hampton Valley Road, and commissioners would consider any offered land draining into the aquifer lakes or reservoir.
