County considers funding landfill program via tax or homeowner fees
An upcoming county board session will review options to fund the landfill program. Measures include adding 3.7 cents to the property tax rate and charging homeowners annual fees of 40 or 25 dollars for curbside recycling and all homes respectively. Commissioner John L Thompson Jr warned the per home fee could be hard to collect and delinquent 25 and 40 dollar bills could cost more than they are worth. The board also discussed seeking MDE action on out of county trash and possible preemption of local restrictions at incineration sites. The moratorium at Knolls at Windsor subdivision near Ijamsville was extended nine months and the Sambill Estates moratorium near Mount Airy was effectively dissolved as water systems were improved.
