Graffiti vandal to pay damages at American Legion

A 19 year old Brunswick man Troy Derr pleaded guilty in Frederick County District Court to malicious destruction of property for spray painting the American Legion wall. He admitted graffiti on a building on West Potomac Street and at Brunswick Shopping Center. He received a suspended sentence and must pay the Legion 250 dollars in damages and complete 32 hours of community service.

Bail Denied For Suspect In Shooting Case

A Frederick County man Daniel Enk Staley, 34, was ordered held without bail by District Court Judge W Minor after the shooting at Virginia Staley's home on James Street. Prosecutor Mary Crawbaugh cited risk to Ms Staley and her children who witnessed the incident. Staley faces charges on two guns and shot a 52-year-old coworker, Smyth, of Dickerson. He pledged to obey release conditions if granted.

Thieves steal $500 from motel bag

Brunswick police investigate a break in at the Motel Sleepers on Louder Road. Between 5:30 p.m. Sunday and 1 a.m. Monday, someone broke in and stole about $500 in cash from a money bag. Call 301-834-9101 with information.

Continual ice from a week old Christmas storm keeps power lines and trees coated as crews battle outages. Firefighters faced a four hour delay reaching a fatal blaze that killed two teens. Temperatures fell to 14 degrees with a forecast near 30. About 37,300 customers remain without power, down from a peak around 315,000. Southwest Electric Cooperative began offering loans up to 700 dollars to customers in Texarkana area awaiting restoration. Union Bridge House Damaged by Fire on Main Street

A two story timber house at 175 Main St in Union Bridge sustained extensive fire damage after passersby spotted flames in the rear. The home, owned by Newman, was unoccupied at discovery. Fire crews called by 911 contained the blaze as investigators continue to probe the cause.

Teen confesses to killing family near rural road site

A three or four sentence read reveals a teen confessed to killing his family at a rural road site about 60 miles north of Spokane. Authorities say the suspect described the killings and later said he did not see his actions clearly. Eleven family members die in Delaware house fire

In Oak Orchard Delaware an early morning blaze at a ranch style home killed eleven family members ranging from an older woman to young children. State police said several victims were taken to Beebe Medical Center in Lewes for treatment as investigators searched the scene for the cause of the fire.
