Havana news indicates the Palma ticket will win the Cuba presidency with Thomas Estrada Palma set to receive an unanimous electoral college vote. Maso supporters who withdrew from the race did not vote.
Washington Jan 2 President Roosevelts first public reception drew 2190 attendees as he delayed closing gates to honor all in line. Mrs Roosevelts entourage included Miss Alice Roosevelt and a bouquet of pink orchids. He then attended Francis Wilson in The Toreador at the National Theatre with a family party.
Pittsburgh Jan 2 two dead and 17 injured after a through passenger train derailed on the Baltimore and Ohio railroad near Glencoe. Engine jumped the track causing the vestibuled train to pile up. Gas tanks exploded and the wreck burned. Dead include engineer John Collins and fireman McCue. Injured include mail clerks Portelle and Young and several others from Washington, Philadelphia, Ha gerstown, and Chicago. Rescue rushed from Cumberland to Meyersdale for treatment.
Philadelphia January 2 An across the board wage raise of four to twelve percent will soon apply to about 45000 Pennsylvania Railroad trainmen taking effect January 1 on all company lines excluding clerical staff. Two men were killed crossing tracks near the Chatham depot when a Lackawanna special train struck their carriage. Jacob Ogden, 60, and his son, 30, perished along with the horse. the incident occurred yesterday afternoon as they attempted to cross.
