Bentz Street bid opening set for March 15
Invitations to bid for resurfacing Bentz Street were issued from the office of City Ww. Raymond Walter. Proposals will be received at City Hall until 12 a.m. March 15 and publicly opened. Work calls for two inch asphalt surface with tack coats across Bentz Street from near West Ninth to West South streets, using about 2 500 tons of asphalt and 3 900 gallons of tack coating. Completion within 40 working days, performance bond required, per Maryland State Road Commission specs. Traffic must remain continuous with half width surfaces and adequate watchmen. Plane crashes near Dayton killing 11 crewmen
A four engine aircraft from Wright Air Development Center collapsed during a brief test flight near Montgomery County, Ohio, exploding on impact and consuming the Henderson farm. Eyewitnesses said the plane roared and veered while trying to land before crashing at 11 55 a m. The craft burned farm buildings and vehicles as flames spread across nine acres. Names of the dead were withheld pending next of kin notification.
