Philips to pay 65.3 million to settle improper test claims
Philips Electronics North America Corp agreed to pay the government 65.3 million dollars to settle claims it sold inadequately tested capacitors and resistors used in military aircraft missiles satellites and radars. The settlement covers tests from 1971 to 1992 at facilities in Florida and Texas. The firm admitted stamping JAN marks on nonconforming parts and falsifying test results. A 1992 disclosure to the inspector general and a 9.6 million payment are credited to the civil settlement. Three former Philips employees were indicted in Miami last December. Philips pleaded guilty to 18 counts in Texas last June and paid 9 million in criminal fines. The civil payment is due within 10 days.
