Pollution cleanup bill welcomed in Maryland
Baltimore conservationists and business leaders form an unusual alliance to back a brownfields law that aims to restore polluted industrial sites and attract buyers. The measure shifts cleanup responsibility to new owners who follow state procedures while holding original polluters liable. The policy is touted as environmental protection and a boost for jobs and economic development.

Senior swimmers build bonds through Mount St. Mary’s Arthritis Aquatics Program
Area seniors join the free first lesson at Mount St. Mary’s College to participate in a year round aqua exercise class. The program blends range of motion and strength routines in shallow water under two morning sessions and an evening class taught by Maura Albright and Kitty Shriver. Members donate to charity instead of cards, with gifts totaling $500 last year and a $2,000 lift donation earning life membership for two donors. The program requires physician approval after the free first lesson and costs $2 per extra lesson for 15 lessons, with contact details for Denise Ditch.
