Maryland bill would extend domestic violence protections statewide
A House panel heard testimony supporting a bill to broaden spousal abuse protections in Maryland. The measure would allow protection orders for couples not living together and for the unmarried, including same sex partnerships, and could let judges grant financial relief for abused partners and children. Victims urged longer removal orders as they recounted beatings, assaults, and a deadly pattern. Sheriff Harbaugh backed the bill, saying it clarifies who may seek relief and reduces victim burden.
