Sub freezing Weather Returns With Cold Spell Ahead
The region will dip below freezing tonight for the first time in over a week while afternoon temperatures reach the 40s. Light snow flurries occurred with a 35 degree low but little precipitation is expected. Skies clear tonight with lows in the 20s and winds easing. Thursday brings cloudy skies and upper 40s with no rain or snow forecast. Temperatures Tuesday peaked at 44 under cloudy skies. Continued on Page A-2.
Taneytown Woman Found After Two-Day Search
The body of 77 year old Taneytown resident Mary Elizabeth Hess was located two miles from her Otterdale Mill Road home Tuesday morning. Police reported no foul play and ordered an autopsy. The extended search involved 800 men and multiple fire departments from Taneytown Harned Union Bridge and Pleasant Valley. Her nephew reported her missing Monday. Her son David, bed ridden since 1932, was found in the home and hospitalized.

Two Children Burned In Harmony Grove House Fire
A house fire at the Noell residence in Harmony Grove injured two children and damaged a bedroom and its contents. The Independent Hose Company arrived at 9:16 a.m. and summoned Walkersville for aid. Four month old Jerry Allen Noell suffered first and second degree burns and was hospitalized in satisfactory condition. Four year old Jimmy Joe Noell received minor hand burns and was released. The home belongs to Grayson H. Mercer and is rented by Robert Noell. Damages are estimated at 1500 dollars. Two other children escaped injury. In a separate Montgomer y County incident, Damascus firefighters found a four room frame house on Gladhill Road fully involved, with 2000 dollars in damage to the structure and 200 to furnishings. Fire Chief Donald Shipley reported Montgomery County Fire Marshal investigation.

Six More U S Helicopters Shot Down In Laos Action
Saigon reports a new surge in Laos as two South Vietnamese bases inside the country come under heavy attack. Six American helicopters were shot down or damaged around the bases, located north and south of Highway 9, both about 10 miles inside Laos. Overall US helicopter losses reach 29 in the 15 day Laos drive with at least 40 Americans killed, 15 missing, and 26 wounded. The Quang Tri base, edge of the northern zone, was also shelled for about 30 minutes with no casualties reported.
